The Sony lineup of LCD TVs offer buyers a good viewing experience for a reasonable price, and the KDL-60EX700 offers everything one of the largest screens available in the LCD market. Like the other models in the screen size EX700 series, the KDL-60EX700 provides a solid viewing experience, but not without a few bumps along the road.

While the Sony KDL-60EX700 offers a big picture, it is certainly lacking in great audio reproduction. As with most other slim LCD panel, audio distortion and vibration that plagues the TV that the volume increases than half a level normally. And do not forget to watch all movies with an action without a pair of external speakers. As a true home theater experience is what you seek, do yourself a favor and buy a number of speakers with this TV.

The Sony KDL 60EX700 is the largest edge-lit LCD televisions based on LEDs in the lineup EX700. And while most edge-lit LED-based LCD TVs to produce exceptional photos, this is not anything to write home about. The picture is watchable, but it lacked the quality required blacks to provide sufficient contrast for the right color and image uniformity suffers from some shortcomings.

As with most of the Sony TVs I’ve tested along the way, users can quickly use their television from the box using the Cinema preset. This preset offers one of the most accurate images I’ve seen. However, with that being said, the only sentence available to get to the advanced menu settings to use to make your way to the Custom preset, I did quite quickly.

Sony spared no expense when it came to creating a TV that just looks good sitting in your living room. I love the two-tone finish of the KDL-60EX700 and the glossy black casing is simply stylish. The state remains the glossy black theme and swivels, pivots and tilts to provide the best viewing angle for your seating.

The keys on the clicker are well designed and used to tell that a lot of thought went into the design and layout of the raised rubber keys. However, I wish that Sony would be the backlight of the remotes offered on other models have held, but I have no real reason to complain here.

Sony also has all the usual suspects when it comes to video streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon on Demand, YouTube and a wide range of niche video services. I thought the Netflix service, while delicious in that it is integrated into the television, a lower quality video image than any other video production services available. The images were soft and often drunk, that was disturbing.

Sony have beaten the benefit of Pandora Slacker in terms of audio services available. Select the contents of the NPR is also available, but there is no mechanism for live streaming radio.

I was discouraged by the lack of integrated Wi-Fi, but Internet connectivity is available via a USB dongle that can be attached to one of the many sites link connection on the back or side panels. Also this TV lacks Yahoo Widgets, creating a touch access to news, weather, sports and market non-existent.

Less than $ 2,500, Sony KDL-60EX700 is slightly expensive for an LCD television, but the larger screen justify the higher price. However, many buyers opt for a smaller screen in exchange for a better picture. Sony is renowned for the quality of consumer electronics and television is no exception. Although there are some problems with contrast and image uniformity, all in all, this is a good TV for the money.

One of the budget-oriented series in the Sony lineup for 2010 is missing from the EX500 series high-end perks such as 3D capability, Motionflow 240Hz processing and access to the BRAVIA Internet video platform. The EX500 series includes screen sizes of 60, 55, 46, 40 and 32 inches. We have not done a hands-on review of the KDL-46EX500, but here is an overview of the TV functions. The 46-inch 1080p LCD uses Sony’s BRAVIA Engine 2 processor and has a traditional CCFL backlight in order to find the LED-based systems in high-end lines meet. This model uses Motionflow 120Hz technology to reduce motion blur and film judder, and it’s Energy Star 4.0 certification.

The KDL-46EX500′s connection panel includes four HDMI, two component video, a PC and an RF input to the internal ATSC and Clear-QAM tuner access. The HDMI inputs accept both 1080p/60 and 1080p/24 signals, and two are on the side panel for easy access. The side wall also includes a USB port, video, photo and music playback support. This TV lacks an Ethernet port or internal wireless antenna on a home network for streaming media to connect. There is also an RS-232 or IR port is missing for integration into further control.

The setup menu contains a solid selection of A/V adjustments, starting with eight shooting modes that tailor the video and audio settings for a particular type of content (such as movies, sports or music). In the video-only area, you can choose from three preset picture modes and four color-temperature. You can RGB gain and bias controls for precise adjustment of white balance access, but the TV lacks advanced color management system precisely tweak the six dots of color. The menu includes general and MPEG noise reduction, gamma adjustment, and an ambient sensor that will automatically optimize the image quality of the room to adjust ambient light (which goes beyond simply adjusting the brightness of the backlight). The Motionflow 120Hz menu offers three options (off, standard and high), and this model is also Sony’s Auto 1 and Auto 2 Cinemotion settings that also impact on the quality of movement in the film. The KDL-46EX500 has four aspect ratio options, with the ability to display 1080i/1080p sources without overscan.

The audio setup menu includes four sound modes Standard, Dynamic, Clear Voice, and Custom. In each mode, you can treble, bass and balance, and the Custom mode allows you to fine tune the output using a seven-band equalizer. You can choose from four surround modes, and there is a steady tone and volume offset options, but this model does not provide audio-leveling technology from a company like Dolby or SRS.

The Eco-menu contains a power-saving mode to the backlight level lower, and turn off the ability to set up the TV by itself when it was in neutral or had no signal for a given time. The KDL-46EX500 not sports Sony’s new monolithic design, it has a fairly traditional aesthetics, are a glossy black frame and adjustable.

    Conclusion

The KDL-46EX500 does not offer all the advantages you get with high-end models, Sony – such as LED lighting, a super-slim body and web/network access – but it’s a 1080p display with four HDMI inputs and the all-important 120Hz technology requires to reduce motion blur in an LCD. It is a good choice for someone who is an affordable, 1080p Sony TV that will work with a lot of sports, action flicks and gaming content to see.

  • Sony BRAVIA KDL-52NX800 Review

    Date: 2010.12.27 | Category: Sony | Response: 0

Once electronically as the top manufacturer in more, Sony is still a big fish, but in a much, much bigger pond. The company focuses on high quality to produce industry-leading products, and its latest generation of HDTVs is no exception. The 52-inch Sony Bravia KDL-LED-backlit 52NX800 HDTV seem expensive for a non-3D set and image quality is not perfect, but a stylish design and practical features such as built-in cable management and integrated Wi-Fi, could only help to justify this set a price.

    Design

Measuring about 32 by 50 by 16 inches (HWD) with its shiny silver plastic base attached to the front of the NX800′s 52-inch (diagonal) panel is very attractive thanks to its sleek all-glass design. Speaking of attractive, the back of the TV is good looking. A recessed panel on the rear left are two HDMI ports, along with an Ethernet, composite video, component video, coaxial and digital and RCA audio outputs. A standard two-pronged power connector is the center of the TV is, but this port is recessed a dream if you want to wall mount the TV.

Both the A/V power connector and plate covers are perfect plastic port, which also help to organize cable placement and a clean, seamless look. Two HDMI ports, VGA, and along with USB ports that are on the left side of the TV. Frankly, this is the intuitive and have seen good HDTV I designed.

A 2-inch wide bezel on the top and sides hide the display of the LED light on the side, allowing a thickness of only 0.95 inches at the narrowest point Panels (growing to 2.1 inches in the vicinity of the base ). is thin at the point of the NX800 slimmer than the Samsung UN55B7000, but the Samsung TV has a single, all-over 1.2-inch-thick design. There is an illuminated Sony logo in the middle of the 3.25-inch lower bezel, but can a menu option to disable the logo of the backlight, so it’s not a distraction. The TV does not with eye-catching labels feature only a removable Energy Star logo in the bottom right and a silver Bravia logo in the upper left-hand ship. An IR receiver and power indicator appears in the lower left corner, and the basic controls on the right side, which correspond to adjacent labels on the bottom bezel, channel and volume are up and down, input, and internal and only at Lens in use.

    Interface

Controls on the included 9.8-by-2.0-by-.75-inch universal remote control are well marked and evenly distributed, but the included lighting, which offers a pleasant blue glow does not light, key titles only an overview of the keys themselves, so you have to either save the layout or use a flashlight in the dark while watching TV.

PlayStation 3 owners will find Sony’s XrossMediaBar interface to be very familiar. In fact, while the use support of TV’s Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) (Sony calls this Bravia Sync) on DVD playback on a PlayStation 3 to control, I was often unable to see first whether I control the TV or the console interfaces are very similar, only the menu options may vary.

The TV includes two preset picture modes-Standard and Vivid but you get a full range of custom settings, so that it is possible to calibrate the image to your liking. The settings can also be linked to a particular input (this is the default), you can on Motion Flow for Blu-ray films, which, in turn, for example-NX800 includes say 240Hz technology while disabling the setting that we, if the switch cable box for typical television.

    Bravia Internet

How many current HDTVs, the NX800 provides a variety of Internet-related functions, including video content, and Yahoo Widgets. In addition to including an Ethernet port for Internet connection, many of Sony’s 2010 HDTV models, including the NX800 includes integrated 802.11n Wi-Fi capability, allowing it to fill any need, the TV’s USB port with a wireless dongle . Sony claims that many Japanese customers have Ethernet ports throughout the house, including at locations that would be suitable for a TV that explain why this feature had not been added to the previous generation of television, but the inclusion of Wi -Fi is certainly welcome in American homes, which are often wired for Ethernet.

Most of the new Bravia Internet services are streamed in standard definition, including YouTube and video content from CBS and Yahoo. Depending on your network limitations, high-definition content, such as select Netflix Watch instantly videos may not stream in HD on the TV-Wi-Fi a blessing, you have the Ethernet port for a solid connection. Sony will continue to search functionality, the NX800-own on-demand movie streaming service, Qriocity (read: “Curiosity”), as is soon to add. As with hardwired video sources can have a whole series of custom audio and video options Bravia Internet link.

    Image quality

The image quality is not the strong suit NX800. How many LED-backlit HDTVs, the NX800 a limited perspective, but this model is the sweet spot is even more restrictive than what we experienced with the Samsung UN40B7000, for example. Colors begin to fade rapidly and blacks with a blue tint if you have more than 25 degrees off center is located, this number drops significantly when a static image on the screen. It was particularly noticeable with red and green color slides using DisplayMate-when viewed from the side that turned red to orange, for example, and slight color variations were obviously defined in a much smaller angles, set while sitting anywhere but directly in front of.

That is, the NX800′s sweet spot is indeed very, very sweet, but it can only measure the width of a sofa when it is positioned far enough away from the crowd. But you should sit more than 60 degrees off-center forgot how it is, where colors are washed out completely. On the bright side, the NX800 ships with a turntable.

Sony Bravia KDL 52NX800 Front Sony BRAVIA KDL 52NX800 Review

We compute black and peak levels of brightness and color fidelity, in the middle of the television, when viewed in a zero-degree angle so that the NX800 objective performance test results were on par with similar models, despite the poor off-angle performance. After a basic dark room calibration, we calculated a contrast ratio of 2319:1, brightness based on a peak of 208.67 cd/m2 and a very respectable black level of 0.09 cd/m2. Only plasma HDTVs, the Panasonic TC-P46G10, offer deeper blacks, we calculated a black level of nearly 0.03 cd/m2 on this set. During low black level typically translate more black representation, blacks appeared with a blue hue when viewed from the side of the NX800.

Blu-ray content looked fantastic, even action scenes from 2012, thanks to 240Hz Motion Flow technology from Sony. We also tested the NX800 with the opening scene from Mission: Impossible 2, which appeared sharply without halo formation, an effect that some other propositions, such as the Insignia NS-L42X-10A plagues. The NX800 also the HD HQV Benchmark ACED podium, the de-interlacing performance tests. HD broadcast content looked great too, although standard-definition content appeared not quite fare as well as video was more pixilated than comparable amounts of noise and a theme, although the performance is more acceptable when looking at the TV for distances of more than 10 meters.

Like most slim HDTVs, there is nothing spectacular about the NX800 audio performance, from a pair of down-powered 10-watt speakers. Sound is clear on, with respectable bass, especially with the S-Force Front Surround mode, but do not expect it to fill a room. And that is unfortunate, considering Sony’s inclusion of Internet Radio Slacker, but if you spend a lot on an HDTV, you’ll probably mating with external speakers.

Thanks to its LED lighting side, the NX800 is very energy efficient for a 52-inch set. Under normal operating conditions (with the picture mode to standard and the backlight at 50 percent), the TV uses 125 watts of power so that it is more efficient than a 150-watt light bulb. Working under the assumption, five hours of daily use, costs of $ 2.16 per month TV, based on the 2008 national average price per kilowatt hour. The Vizio VF551XVT, a 55-inch model with LED backlight consumes 168 watts under similar conditions. Both deserve our TV GreenTech seal of approval, thanks to its remarkable energy efficiency.

With a current nearly $ 3000, the Sony Bravia KDL-52NX800 probably go down in the crowd once the market is flooded with 3D-enabled HDTV in the next few months. While the design and aesthetics are top notch, built the image quality is not like the price, despite the attractive features such as Wi-Fi and Web extras. If you do not wait until spring to a 3D-capable HDTV purchase, or if you just can not imagine a 3-D glasses in the near future, the NX800 a good choice if you value clean design and a large budget . But be sure that very limited perspective in mind. At the end of the deals you can get, in the last year models, including the smooth Samsung UN40B7000, as is likely to offer more for your money.

    Technical data

The BRAVIA XBR-60LX900 has a beautiful 60-inch screen with Edge-lit LED backlight, which for a thin and slim design allows. Sony boasts that this 3D TV has an infinite dynamic contrast ratio. The dynamic contrast ratio compares the luminance of a white video signal with the luminosity of a black signal. When the TV receives a black signal, the LED-backlit display and the resulting dynamic contrast ratio creates an infinite black. This is simply another way of saying that the Sony can produce true 3D-TV blacks and bright whites. The dynamic contrast also creates vibrant colors and crisp images. In addition, Sony’s best 3D display with the optical contrast panel, which develops image improves accuracy and reduces glare and reflection.

It also works very well with 3D cinema, but we found that the 3D effect is not quite as realistic or as crisp as the Panasonic TX-P54VT25 3D TV.

The LX900 series of 3D television uses Sony’s own Bravia Engine 3 (REC 3), a digital video processor that produces a sharper image more alive. If you watch standard-definition programming on this BRAVIA HDTV, you will immediately notice that the BE 3 processor improves the image quality by reducing noise, or graininess of the image and improving color and contrast. This TV is available in two sizes, the first is this 52-inch model and the other is 46-inch model and apply this review to both, because there are no major changes except the size of the panel. The price of this TV is $ 4000 and you may wonder why Sony has struck such a high price on this TV. The reason is that the panel backlight and the monolithic design LED. The latter was very popular in Sony’s drives, they make the TV look quite attractive, so that producers makes you pay more money for them.

The Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR9 HDTV presents clear and balanced picture, and it also offers a surprisingly wide range of Internet video options. In addition, its comprehensive DLNA and USB-based multimedia tools are not only easy to use, but really enjoyed. High quality and extras go a long way in explaining the series of steep road forecast.

In Labs image quality tests of the KDL-52XBR9 scored particularly high for brightness and contrast, secure in the handling of light, dark and mid-regions within an image. It was not quite as good performance with color: As the crowd has a respectable job, sued two judges, with a slight green tint, although the effect was not as bad as on some other models we’ve looked at recently. The TV was missing the primary color space adjustment necessary to correct the problem, but we were able to reduce the green color before the test. If you choose this model, you will probably never completely able to see the color perfectly.

This 240Hz LCD also had some minor problems with the movement, but they were small enough that not all our judges noticed. Two judges saw a slight moire pattern in a wall in chapter 7 of Mission: Impossible III Blu-ray Disc One also bucking discovered in a pan of Chapter 9 of The Dark Knight on Blu-ray. As you might expect from a 240Hz set, the KDL-52XBR9 has very good test in our horizontal pivot test, but also very well executed (making only a slight jerk) in our diagonal pivoting. These results tell us that should be in actual use the KDL-52XBR9 able to deal with most situations like a pro.

You will have no problem bringing the KDL-52XBR9 the volume to deafening levels, either. When I turned the volume as high as it would go, blasted the volume extremely loud sound and a very low distortion. With the volume to a comfortable 60 percent, I found no noticeable distortion at all. The sound was very well received by TV standards, with an impressive momentum. The pseudo-surround effect was like the real thing much, but. To true surround – or for that matter, really excellent sound – you’re still better off with a separate home theater sound system.

Sony includes a remarkably comprehensive collection of Internet news and video options with the KDL-52XBR9. Among them are Yahoo Widgets (points for weather, news, sports, finance, Twitter and other services that are marketed here as Bravia widgets), Amazon and Yahoo Movies on Demand, Blip.TV, Sports Illustrated, CBS (mostly just clips but a few full episodes as well), a horror-movie channel called FEARnet, and of course, Netflix and YouTube. Unfortunately, Sony integrated YouTube interface is to entertain as likely as frustrated. User Video requires lengthy text input via the remote control and an unattractive and confusing to form on the screen. After you get the video you want, by default, in a context that plays too small for enjoyable watching. You can adjust the size of the window by pressing the remote control selection (in the middle of the circle of arrows) and then pressing the Up and Down, but nothing on the screen or in the instruction manual tells you to do so.

The KDL-52XBR9 Ethernet connection, you can also listen to hook the HDTV in your home network, allowing you to see pictures, music, watch videos, and from any computer in the house run a DLNA server such as Windows Media Player 11 or higher. (If you do not like WMP, you have many other DLNA server programs to choose from, many of them free, for Windows, Mac or Linux.) You can also plug a flash drive into the USB port and TV view media that way.

The KDL-52XBR9 also comes with TV Guide On Screen, which lists and describes the shows airing in the next 24 hours. But this feature has a price: With TV Guide On Screen is activated, draws the Energy Star 3.0-compliant KDL-52XBR9 a lavish 16 watts when it is turned “off”. To the point of view, if we see an average of 2 hours worth of TV per day, the KDL-52XBR9 will consume more power when it is turned off, as if it’s on.

According to PC World Labs tests, it uses about 167 watts when turned on, it’s better than the power consumption of most similar size HDTVs we’ve tested.

The remote is not backlit or programmable.

Sony has announced that its products a cut above others in terms of style. Take a look at Sony Vaio laptops, you will realize this quickly. They are more expensive than other standard laptops, but certainly draw many looks when you sport it at your local cafe. This panel may be the exception to other style-conscious Sony products. The screen turns off and the squaring of the looks are quite conservative, such as LG, Samsung and Sharp even compared. On the bottom is a speaker bar and beyond, you have a bright stripe that is a focus on this TV. The stand is glossy black and does not allow the plate to swing.

Apart from actually hooking a PC to your TV, Sony’s Internet TV with Google TV, also known as the NSX GT1 series, the closest you’ll probably now one of the two converging devices. This is an advantage and a disadvantage compared to traditional TV with Internet connection, which typically rely on a “walled garden” used by applications and streaming services for the fire engine of Internet content into discrete channel streams. On the other hand, the Sony’s built-in browser Chrome – which behaves essentially like the one on your computer, aside from the inability to get videos from Hulu and many other sites – opens the tube very effectively and offers more content than the TVs. can stands On the downside, Google is threatening to TV users, soak too many decisions, and suffers from frustrating to many of the same mistakes and problems that make PCs.

The main difference between this Sony and the other two Google-TV products are available now as well as Sharp Aquos LC52D85U, namely the Logitech Revue Set-Top Box and Sony’s NSC-GT1 Blu-ray player, is integration. On the hardware side, Sony’s compact, thumb-centric remote control is not as easy as using Logitech, but the bigger problem to be critical viewers of TV mediocre image quality. While the Sony Internet TV is surprisingly affordable for all who can do it, and we are sure that Google’s software to develop significantly in the coming months at this point we have a hard time recommending the NSX GT1 series for each other than Early adopters who do not want to monitor a mute.

The KDL-40V5100 is the smallest model in Sony’s V5100 series, which includes 46 – and 52-inch siblings. It offers the usual inputs on the side and rear jack panels, including four HDMI connections and added two component-video connections. It also has a USB port to access your photo and music files, but it does not have an Ethernet (LAN) to connect to a home network.

The Sony-single-language, 24-page manual is one of the tightest we’ve ever seen for a TV. Sony must have read studies show that open to most people never crack it. But at least this is not intimidating. It takes you running quickly, even if you do not adequately over most of the functions of the series leaves. Sony also offers a large manual on its website.

In addition to the usual video controls and picture modes (we used movies, tweaked as necessary for the tests), these functions start with the set of color adjustments. As I mentioned above, the Sony does not offer a color management system. But it has the standard color temperature options. You want to choose warm, as we do. There are also white balance adjustments on both the high and low end of the brightness for use in a full calibration.

You can separate the video monitor for each input and picture mode. If you choose the same screen mode for more than one input, you can also use the controls is different for each of them. This offers tremendous flexibility. But if you want to use the same settings for a number of active inputs, you must remember to manually copy it to anyone.

Sony is the company’s Motionflow 120Hz technology. It worked about as good as any similar function that I’ve seen, although I’m not a fan of this type of processing, especially for movies. It plays smooth movement, which some viewers find it useful to sports or other video-based programming could.

The Sony accepts 1080p 24 material and displays them either by repeating four times each real frame to achieve the display refresh rate of 120 Hz (in other words, 5:5 pulldown). Or, Motionflow, engaged by inserting four interpolated images for each real frame. It does the same with 1080p 60 (either a native 1080p 60 on input or upconverted to 1080i or lower resolution to 1080p by the amount of internal processing). However, in this case, it adds a single interpolated frame instead of four, reached the set’s 120-Hz refresh rate.

The Advanced Contrast Enhancer dynamically adjusts the backlight depending on the characteristics of the image. Sony’s literature claims that the set offers Dynamic Contrast, but unless this is the same as the Advanced Contrast Enhancer, I could not find another control that performed that function. We have no contrast enhancement on each of the sentences for the panel tests. More to the point, the Sony black level and shadow detail does not need.

The Sony offers a multi-level gamma control, but I thought that was the best setting off. This led to a gamma of about 2.2.

I was not able to display the Sony consistently, without geometric distortion, sources that are either necessary or normal aspect ratio zoom settings. A firmware update that Sony sent us for our sample, which has appeared in a preliminary series, to cure the problem.

The Sony came in a close second in the standings. Two members of the five-judge panel agreed it first overall win and two rated second. No one liked her. I can not tell you how I voted, I was blind to participants, but I like to think I would have it placed on top, as my fondness for serious consideration in a darkened room and the consequent need for great black levels. As I mentioned, the Sony also won raves for his performance on the lights, although that was a very short part of the test and not in the standings.

The Sony can not have victory snatched here, but it is still the clear winner.
