LG is an ambitious brand. After the number one in the U.S. for mobile phones the company is focusing its attention on television: It wants the number one there too. And it hopes to achieve this by offering as the PX950 plasma TVs and the upcoming LEX8 LCD.

    Design

LG has a few different design features in the last few years, with the most obvious is limitless, and a secondary aesthetic to what we call “glass painting”. The new 50PX950 connects these two.

With the PX950, you get a flush screen with a “hidden” like the LX9500 LCD bezel, but at the edges, it goes on the blue theme of the previous plasma range – even if not entirely successful, it is subtle. For closer inspection of the fit and finish not like television sets from premium rivals.

The 50PX950 is a plasma TV and so it is not supermodel thin, but much slimmer than its Panasonic competition. Everything is held upright by a tempered glass base and a clear plastic podium.

The remote control? It’s a good – indeed, one of our favorites. The buttons are big, feel the ergonomic and easy to use without looking at. Our only slight bugbear is that you must press a button in the upper right corner to run the backlight.

    Features

If you’ve been following the coverage you can about both IPTV and 3D, and will have been either confused or upset about the fact that it is suitable for both. For us, the money has always been on internet TV, but it is much less “sexy” in 3D. Despite that, the LG has to offer is still the only TV at the time of writing to BigPond movie and TV downloads.

But is 3D that LG wants to sell to you, and in a bit of a coup there, the first THX-certified, the 3D to the quality of 3D images to be improved fetched. The TV will convert material into 3D and back again, and the record is a single set of glasses.

The panel itself is a 1920×1080-pixel plasma, which promises a TruBlack filter, better blacks and less reflection features. For us is important as a TV as the LG 47LE7500 is distractingly reflective in a lighted room.

The TV is well connected and has Ethernet and wireless networks (via a supplied USB dongle). You also get four HDMI ports (but no audio back channel support) and two component inputs. If the sound of content on-board to hear the TV channel you can use the optical to your receiver via digital output. A VGA input is also included.

    3D performance

While the industry is still jumping up and down about 3D is the general public not so impressed by her. But this could change all the TV? As the “world’s first THX-certified 3D TV from LG” – see what they did with the quantifiers it? – We were excited to see how this TV in that which has carried out a quite appalling turnout this year.

What does THX certification to do 3D? Now LG has a history of working with THX “accurate” to ensure sound and image. This is evidenced in the wealth of professional-yet-simple setup options on his TV. The THX 3D mode is to extend this by offering reduced crosstalk and better pictures.

LG Infinia 50PX950 Side LG 50PX950 Plasma 3D TV Review

In the test, we found it worked as planned. Switching between “Standard” mode and “THX” mode, we found the color palette was less hyperactive and more “natural” on the “Monsters vs. Aliens” 3D Blu-ray and spectral crosstalk was reduced. Unfortunately, there were still traces of crosstalk in the guide wires from the Golden Gate Bridge, the Panasonic and Sony systems could reproduce this scene better.

Funny, proposes the TV you “a break of 10 minutes to 15 minutes per hour” every time you engage 3D mode and we can not see too many people stop a movie half of their eyes to do exercises. But it’s nice to know that they care.

    2D performance

we will find the LG secure Actor – Move to 2D content – honest because sometimes, there are a lot of it about. It blitzed the synthetic tests such as playback of video content and the ability to “jaggies” to overcome, suggesting, it should also lead with the most content.

But what can not the synthetic tests assess how well the TV play movies every day, so we invited our BDX2000 Toshiba player with the Mission Impossible III Disc, trawled through the picturesque bridge scene and pressed Send.

The opening was sent flying by with a little wiggle and no moire in the fence that runs alongside the road treated. But as soon as the vision cut to Tom Cruise’s face the problems started, and yes smarty-pants, we know, but there was more wrong than that. Plasma may have trouble distinguishing between colors tend to a line between colors graduated as a smooth surface to leave. The skin tone on Tom’s face was spotted as he’d had a lifetime of drinking cheap port.

LG Infinia 50PX950 Stand LG 50PX950 Plasma 3D TV Review

Strangely, we found that this is a side effect of the THX mode – the colors were a little too “hot” and drag the slider down a bit of color we could eliminate them. Otherwise, noise was kept to a minimum and the TV was between digital sums (bad) and film grain to distinguish (good) competent.

Go to “Batman Begins” on Blu-ray and the picture that greeted us was detailed and deep, and the gradation problem was less pronounced. The black levels may not like the Sony HX800s this world or the Panasonic Plasmas are made, but it’s closer to find in there, and us, this is important.

This depth was was still in evidence on the King Kong DVD and TV confidently track movement without the “contrails” we’ve seen us on models like the Panasonic Viera TH-P65VT20A. Colors were natural, with King Kong’s fur looked like fur and not some form of gray-green licorice.

His visual beings as we are, sound quality is on a TV usually something that we do not think about. But if you do not have a sound system then the LG makes a good fist of the dialogue and sound effects. We were pleased with how full and uncompressed it sounded impressed, and Mumbly players could be relatively well understood.

The switch to the IPTV platform, we NetCast Fired Up BigPond movies and found the interface to be friendly and easy to use. The quality of the image depends on the source material, but pulling up a free copy of schlocky 80s cash-in-Masters of the Universe, we found that the picture was blocky and not worth the zero dollars that we paid for him.

    Conclusion

LG TVs have a history of consistent performance, but it’s usually something small that prevents them from ever full credit and a reflective plate is one example. We were pleasantly surprised, then the LG 50PX950 has found no such glaring issues. It is a top performer at a good price.

With his lean profile and a strong lineup of features, the LG 47LE8500 Infinia is certainly considered chic connected HDTV. Just over an inch thick, this 47-inch full array packed with backlight LED TV is a good collection of Internet services (including Netflix-on-demand and Vudu) plus a full range of media playback tools, very good sound and lots of individual controls on the Internet. The image quality, as measured in our juried tests generally good to very good. The Infinia 47LE8500 costs more than most competitors in its screen-size class.

Judges usually 47LE8500 awarded high marks for color, brightness and contrast, but it did less well in the classification of detail and sharpness. It tends to be the best to do with “over-the-air” TV content (like a baseball game, wheel of fortune and a vineyard scene), during the battle with Phantom of the Opera DVD (some judges complained of a greenish tint and general darkness) . Judges were also impressed by the picture quality for Blu-ray Disc movies (Mission Impossible III and The Dark Knight. And despite the amount of the 240Hz refresh rate, it did not ace our motion tests. judge observed some stuttering in the diagonal panning clip and some artifacts in our test podium.

Nevertheless, the results were mediocre hovered at worst, and generally in good to very good range. Perfectionists demand better image quality, but most people are happy, especially given the wide range of image adjustment tools – including an ambitious ten-point white-balance control.

As the 50-inch LG Infinia 50PK950, the sleek style 47LE8500 seriously. His glass extends seamlessly across his thin black bezel, ends in a thin, transparent border. Unfortunately, the antenna or cable connection down, making it difficult for the user in a coaxial cable, as if the port facing the screw.

The left edge of the set delivers fourth HDMI port, two USB ports, one port for each component or composite video and a headphone jack. The set comes with a few ties and a cable holder to help with cable management, and you can swivel the device on its base 20 degrees in either direction.

The Infinia 47LE8500 comes with two remotes: a standard remote control and a mini remote control switch for the channel or input or adjust the volume. The standard remote control is long and slender, but the keys are quite large, and it is a switch to flip it back light. In addition to providing access to the usual TV controls and on-screen menu, the buttons on the remote to control SimpLink-compatible devices that allow a remote control, more control over HDMI connected electronics.

LG offers simple explanations of controls, of which there are many, mainly for image adjustment. But everyone can picture presets, which include a couple of THX-certified modes.

LG’s Simple Manual – a shortened, on-screen version of the long (204 page) PDF, which is available on CD – is useful because the longer documentary about covers a dozen different LG HDTV models, with illustrations, the arene ‘t for exactly that phrase. In print, LG offers a rudimentary setup guide that is not close to all the series of skills. A printed information sheet addresses A/V professionals who use a particular service port to make adjustments.

The Internet features are a key selling point for this set, and LG leads most of them very well. You can in your Flickr account to view your photos and YouTube support is great, so to stop and play with the remote control for example. The Vudu set supports Picasa, and Yahoo Widgets. I tested the set with an Ethernet connection to a DSL router, LG also offers an optional USB WiFi dongle into one of the USB ports on the side connector, for connecting to wireless home networks.

The 47LE8500 lets you play music and video, and it can even display images on a flash drive inserted in one of its USB ports or from a DLNA-compliant media server. An on-screen media player you can control the playing, select background music for slide shows and so on. LG provides detailed lists of supported codecs in its PDF manual. You can view the 47LE8500 as DivX device, after which it can play DivX-protected content.

The audio system was a joy to hear. The surround sound for the Phantom of the Opera Blu-ray disc played on a PlayStation 3 was loud and convincing (though the bass were a bit weak). It is not a real home theater system, but it is a credible replacement. Like most high-end HDTVs, provides the 47LE8500 several preset sound modes (standard, music, cinema, sports and games), as well as features for making speech clearer and to balance total as you see (so that an ad for such are not much louder than the rest of the programming).

The HDTV power consumption meets the Energy Star 4 standard. In our tests, it averaged only 76 watts when turned on and 0 when turned off. The set has a lower energy consumption button that you can use to reduce consumption of electricity by dimming the image.

Altogether, there do share a lot in this fully equipped. But it is expensive. Among competing models of the same order, earned the 46-inch Samsung LN46C650 better grades (even worse-looking specs on paper) and provided even more Internet features.

  • LG INFINIA 50PK750 Review

    Date: 2010.09.14 | Category: LG | Response: 0

The LG 50PK750 is a 50in plasma TV with a borderless design. It is very attractive and has a good image quality to boot. Overall, it is a good panel for a reasonable price.

    Design and Connectivity

The Plasma TV LG 50PK750 uses the “borderless” design that we first saw on the LG 47SL90QD LED TV. It does not have an embossed plastic bezel instead – a single sheet of glass covers the entire front. While this is a headache when it comes to fingerprints, that’s the LG 50PK750 easy to clean with a cloth. The TV also has an attractive, relatively thin outer edge. We did not like the big black stripe on the 47SL90QD, but the general appearance of the new 50PK750 is more streamlined. It also has a swivel base – great to see on a fairly large board.

    LG 50PK750 Front1 LG INFINIA 50PK750 Review

The glass panel on the front of the LG 50PK750 is very shiny. It looked fantastic when we had passed us a few minutes to polish and it looks on TV winning industrial design step, but has the disadvantage of the unfortunate pick any reflections. It’s great when you watch TV in a dark room with the lights off – and that’s what we’ve always recommended – but if the sun behind you or an overhead fluorescent lighting, you may notice the odd reflection or two.

We were surprised to see only three HDMI ports on the back of the LG 50PK750 until we found the fourth conveniently placed on the TV side, along with two USB 2.0 ports for DivX, MP3 and JPEG files. We think that for most consumers, two HDMI ports enough – one is for connecting a Blu-ray player and more to connect a set-top box like a TiVo or Topfield. After four ports, the LG 50PK750 keeps in line with competitors from major brands such as Samsung and Sony.

The 50PK750 take LG’s Internet access Netcast features. There are a whole range of content on the service, with YouTube still an excellent host for improvised movie-watching, and integrated BigPond Movies is useful if you do not have a TiVo, Internet-connected Blu-ray Disc Player or Media Center PC.

The LG 50PK750 has only a 12-month warranty as standard. While this is not worse than competitors like Sony, we would really like to have at least a two-year warranty. When buying a new television, warranty length is a primary concern for consumers – that is why extended warranties are so popular – so we would encourage to consider LG a superior warranty to its competitors.

    Image quality, color and contrast

If one of the distracting glossy screen and disappointing guarantee almost every other aspect of the LG 50PK750 impressed us.

The LG 50PK750 is a plasma TV, so it has some advantages over LCD TVs (for example, Kogan 1080P40) and even LED TVs like the Sony NX800. The most important of these is the ability of plasma bright white next to dark, Inky Black – a merit of the plasma-panel network of individual cells, which control their own light output display.

The LG 50PK750 takes a little tweaking to optimize its image, but once this happens, it offers excellent image quality and smooth gradations contrast. You can choose from eight picture modes, but we found the THX Cinema preset generally best if the pictures in a dark room. In the user setting, we decided to slightly lower brightness, while a slight bump was saturated color and contrast video look like a punchier. We left edge for almost all the ads intact – as it is, view the LG displays 50PK750 good levels without over sharpening edges and high contrast points.

Contrast are excellent. In our demanding The Dark Knight Blu-ray test footage, the intro sequence of the sharp points of white light on the LG 50PK750 without the good levels of detail we saw displayed in darker areas of the screen. We do not have any significant bloom or light bleeding after adjusting brightness levels. When playing Speed Racer and WALL-E, we found the picture with smooth gradations and vivid high levels of fine image details.

lg 50pk750 back LG INFINIA 50PK750 Review

    Energy

The LG 50PK750 is energy efficient for a plasma TV. She claims a four-star rating energy that most games of similar size LCD televisions (although LED-backlit models are more efficient). We found its maximum energy in the THX Cinema mode preset to about 350 watts in bright scenes, covered with darker scenes around the 200W mark. This is an impressive number, the witness significant benefits of LG’s 50PK750 in energy efficiency compared with plasma TV, which just a year ago.

    Conclusion

LG’s 50PK750 is no wallflower. The only shortcomings are the super-glossy screen and mediocre stock – apart from the fact it is an excellent all-round performer in terms of image quality among others. We also love the design. If you do not want to shell out for a Panasonic plasma or Samsung LED, give some serious consideration to LG’s plasma.

LG Infinia Enjoy The LG Infinia 47LE8500

In 2010, you can prepare to confuse the two friends are quite complex television technology: 3D and LED backlight. Before you ask, no, 3D is not available in a series of LG LE8500 reviewed here – it is a privilege reserved for the more expensive models of 9500 – but an LED backlight.More importantly, LE8500 has a full array of lights, with local dimming, meaning hundreds of independent cells of the screen you can control the brightness of their own, which can really help improve the quality of the image. Unlike most other LED-backlit TVs to date or not local dimming ability or attempt to mimic the dimming full array by creating a zone from the edge of the illuminated configuration. We know that the former has little effect on image quality, we have not tested the latter (which we call “edge with local dimming” at the moment), but we can tell you after watching the LE8500, that the full array of local dimming still works perfectly, for the most part.

Unfortunately, the picture 8500 has a defect in the absence of other local displays blackout that would be difficult for some viewers to forget: the uneven uniformity across the screen. On the other hand, if you go by the most important components of a good picture – black level and accuracy – LG LE8500 is a new line of LCD-coop, and it sets the bar high for other TV sets in 2010. If you do not give a damn about the 3D and are prepared to pay more for the excellent efficient LCD, it belongs near the top of the wish list.

Series Information: We have a practical assessment of 47-inch member of the series of LG LE8500, but this review also applies to other screen size in this series. Both sizes have the same specifications and in accordance with the manufacturer should provide very similar to the image quality.
