Roku XDS & Apple TV
The great Internet TV Battle Royale of 2010 has officially begun, with new boxes from Roku and Apple TV leads the charge. But if you look at the sub-ratings (design, features, performance), you’ll see that each field has a relative strength and weakness. Right now, it shakes as follows: The selection of TV shows to current is limited only ABC, Fox, BBC, and Disney.
Apple TV: We design and interface on the Apple box. It is easy to use, beautiful to look at and works like a charm. The problem – especially for a product with the word “TV” in the name – is that it is observed just not a whole lot of TV on it. Instant rental selection show from Fox, ABC, Disney and BBC are restricted – and where providers are not fully the decisions (not a “building”, no “Fringe” and not a “Modern Family”, for example). There is a workaround – Department iTunes shows on your PC and Mac, and streaming from your computer to your Apple TV – but it is slow, cumbersome and expensive than renting. (Netflix is great on Apple TV, as most everywhere else, but the service does not provide much current-season TV content at this time.)
On the other hand, you can download from Apple iPad remote app on the Apple TV from any iPod Touch or iPhone to control – and it works really well. And if you already have a huge library of iTunes music on your PC hard drive, accessible from the Apple TV is dead easy. In other words, Apple TV is currently the best for those who are Apple’s best-in-class interface and design, value, and already use other Apple software and hardware products. Roku is currently offering a greater variety of programming languages as Apple TV. Roku XDS: The XDS is the new flagship Roku box, with step-down models available even cheap $ 79 and $ 59 price. No one is likely to be blown by the Roku interface, it is rigid and utilitarian, and lacks the smooth animations and polish what you see on the Apple TV.
What it lacks in style, makes up for election in Roku. In other words, maximize Roku is a better choice for the audience to us on program decisions, and those that are not in use, tight integration with other Apple products. CNET’s recommendation: That being said, would be our current recommendation: Hold off. Do not buy anything. Wait – at least for a few weeks. This recommendation is for two reasons.
For starters, these two products are important software upgrades in the coming weeks. Apple TV will always AirPlay iPhone compatibility in November, which will enable all the AirPlay-enabled application to audio, video or photos of an iPad, iPod Touch or the Apple TV on the Send button on the screen. Roku, meanwhile is expected to increase in October, Hulu, which shows the current seasons of all ABC, NBC and Fox have for unlimited display for only $ 9.99 per month offers.
