Toshiba 55UX600U 55-Inch HDTV Review
While people are chomping at the bit for 3D HDTVs or so believe the industry wants to make them Internet-connection sets are real and arriving at a rapid clip. Everybody has to Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, LG, Sharp and Toshiba now. The net results UX600 allows you to hear to access YouTube videos, download movies VUDU check out photos on Flickr, Internet radio, streams, access news and more. Competing models offer similar features. Together with soldiers dancing on YouTube, you can also check out traditional HDTV channels and Blu-ray movies to round out your entertainment buffet. Let’s see if the 55UX600 satisfied our appetites …
Features and Design
The Toshiba 55UX600 is pretty straight flat-panel display. No curvy lines are like on the LG sets or splashes of color from Samsung. Our unit was just black. Toshiba calls it a Thin Air lagoon design, but we have nothing to listen to Hawaiian music in the background after setting it up. Yet it is interesting, not simply expect to be thrilled. What is impressive is the slenderness that a shade under 2 inches (1.96 to be exact) is. Other dimensions are 53 inches wide, 33 high and tips the scales at 63 pounds with the stand.
The front is a clean and simple as can be. There is an illuminated Toshiba logo on the bottom panel with power on/off and timer counters. On the left is the remote sensor, while the auto-brightness sensor is on the right. This last sensor adjusts backlight levels to fit the light in your room.
The right side panel has the controls that you never use (on/off, channel up down and so on), because if you leave as we do, the remote never hand. Among them are load of inputs, including an SD card slot, USB 1, Ethernet, USB 2 (for the wireless adapter), two HDMI and a set of component ins. On the back are more ins and outs, including two HDMI-in is more PC audio-video and PC-ins, digital audio and IR sensor in. outs with antenna cable This is a good choice, although we the SD card reader treated like other files requested as AVCHD video as a basic JPEG photos.

Connecting Blu-ray and HD cable box via HDMI is about as simple as it gets. A wireless connection to the router is different. We bring you the included wireless adapter into the USB port dedicated and had no problems whatsoever linking to our router two floors above the crowd. Entering the WEP key with the remote control was a bit boring, but hardly a problem. Speaking of the included remote control, we spare you our usual gripe about the naive controller packed with $ 2,000 TVs – Buy a Logitech Harmony and is done with it.
Once you set up, you tap on the widget button on the remote control Toshiba and you’ll have a serious taste of Net TV get 1080p with everything from VUDU movies, Facebook, Twitter, the New York Times and dozens more. However, it is missing Netflix integration. This is not a big deal because you can get Netflix on most Blu-ray players and game consoles. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of streamed movies like Alice in Wonderland and definitely liked the access to our Pandora radio account a few tunes to listen to. Given the lack of first-run shows this summer, surfing these pages is a real plus.
The Internet is great, but any laptop with a wireless connection, you get to these sites and more. The 55UX600 is primarily an HDTV, and much more to a 55-inch screen and a $ 2,000 price tag. We could look in a variety of programs via HDMI from our Verizon FiOS cable box and Panasonic Blu-ray player.
Like all quality HDTVs, the Toshiba has a lot of tweaking, especially for video. They range from AutoView the quality fit, depending on ambient light and source material, sports, games, movies, PC and standard. You can change many settings for each, depending on the setting. We felt it in bumper view most of the time but in standard and movie color and contrast adjusted to our liking.

BUY TOSHIBA 55UX600U NOW AT A SPECIAL REDUCED PRICE!Audio settings are limited compared, but there is a faux surround option that improves the sound space is a little bit, but only a shadow of a real 5.1 system. Like almost all HD flat screen TV, the UX600 20W output power total (10 +10) for the two speakers located in the lower part of the set. The radiating down speakers produce decent sound, but you really should at least add a sound bar opt to experience. On the positive side has built-in Audyssey EQ circuit for the small speakers along by smoothing, penned by some of the distortions that help speakers in small rooms (ie, the scope of HDTVs).
The 55UX600 used an edge-lit LED backlight, which has its advantages and disadvantages. It costs much less than full-LED array systems with local dimming, as found in the Toshiba 46SV670, a TV with very deep blacks and high image quality. Combined with a lower price, allowing edge-lit systems for very thin panels, about half the depth of the SV670. Granted a quality step-down from the company’s top-of-the-line Cinema Series, as they stand on their own doing?
With the sentence in AutoView we saw some FIFA game highlights, a big test for LCD blur and the UX600′s 120Hz technology are treated well. In addition to football and baseball, we also observed a variety of other programming languages. The picture quality was decent, but without the pop of the Cinema Series HDTVs or other full-array is backlit. As readers know DigitalTrends.com, but we feel plasma has the best blacks and contrast, the UX600 significantly lower quality. After doing a variety of BD disks, we came away with the same result. Overall, image and sound quality were good, but not at the same level of the other HDTVs we’ve reviewed.
Conclusion
The Toshiba 55UX600 has an MSRP $ 2,399, but goes for about $ 2K in legit online sellers. Samsung Ethernet-only 55-inch LED HDTV Internet is about the same price as a Panasonic, a 54-inch Wi-Fi-ready plasma G25 also about $ 2,000, including optional wireless accessories for your router. Given the similar prices, the Toshiba is not a screaming buy, but it’s still a good TV show that can easily connect to the Web button, the remote control. Net TV after I fight along years, we are glad to see a gangly kid and runs along like a FIFA All-Star. We just wish that NET TV was a true champion and included the likes of Netflix. If we could have put our dream, let Toshiba add Internet capability, and widgets to a SV670 Cinema Series edition. It would in any case would cost more but be a dynamite package.
